2018, The Year That Was For See.Sense | Looking To An Even Brighter 2019

Time definitely does fly when you work here at See.Sense… Each month can sometimes go by feeling like it was only a week, in a good way of course! One day you can be doing some product testing with the whole team by throwing a bike off your office building roof (we explain more below), or on another day your job is solely to ride your bike for 8 hours showing off our new products in an epic video. Someone has to do it, we know…

Our team have enjoyed some amazing milestones and successes over the past 12 months, sharing some fantastic memories with our customers and backers. We’ve watched See.Sense go from being a small business with a really big ambition, to a growing brand that is now an official partner of British Cycling and is recognised globally too.

We rounded off 2018 by launching not one, but two new products on Kickstarter. We like to think that you are all a part of this success with us. So a huge thank you to everyone who is reading this now, if you are a longtime friend of See.Sense, or if you have just joined us recently. Before we look to what's coming in 2019, it’s sometimes good to take a moment to reflect back on the year that was. That’s why we’ve included some memories of 2018 below.

Manufacturing ACE

We are proud to have continued to manufacture all of our products locally, especially with the higher scale of production of ACE. For us, manufacturing abroad wasn’t the best option for a number of reasons, even where costs were concerned.

Our team members really enjoyed taking trips to the factory here in Northern Ireland earlier in the year. We loved meeting and working with the staff that build the lights you ride and we ride with every day. Even our packaging is made right here in Northern Ireland too, check out our video here to watch the full ACE manufacturing process.

Fundraising in 2018

Early in the year our team set ourselves some challenges both to achieve personal goals of our own and to a little bit of money for Charity. We were pleased to raise over £500 for The Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children by running the Belfast City Marathon in the team relay. We also continued to support our Tree planting charity throughout the year, planting a tree for each set of lights we sold.

Delivering ACE

As many of you know, we use fulfilment centres in the UK and US to deliver our products to you. So in September, box by box, Luke and the team were excited to start shipping ACE lights out to our 5,000+ backers and customers. What was even more exciting though was seeing your photos and comments come in on social media telling us how much you like your new ACE lights. Being recognised for our work is a testimony to the passion we put into our work, but what we love even more is the fantastic feedback we receive from satisfied customers!

NEC Cycle Show

Meeting you all is the favourite part of our work (as well as riding our bikes) so that’s why our team love getting over to Birmingham and talking to you at the UK's biggest cycle show. The show did come up at a busy time this year straight after we’d finished shipping ACE.

And as you can see from the photos, we were looking much ‘fresher’ on day one compared to day five. It was all worth it as we received an amazing response from all visitors. If you came to meet us at our stand, thank you, we’d love to see you there again next year!

British Cycling

In October we were delighted to announce our four-year partnership with British Cycling as their Official Bike Light & Crowdsourced Data Supplier. The exciting part of the partnership is that we are now working closely with British Cycling and local authorities in the UK to implement the changes required from our rider insights to help make cycling conditions better for everyone.

If you would like to learn more, then this piece written by Carlton Reid at Forbes explains our full story and vision really nicely.

Economic Disruptor Of The Year

We continued to earn recognition for our products and innovation during 2018, including winning The Spectator’s Regional Winner for the “Economic Disruptor Of The Year” award. The awards celebrate the most creative entrepreneurs in the UK whose businesses have the potential to scale.

Ending 2018 On A High | Our Brightest Lights Yet

We ended off our year on a major high, by meeting the demand for our products following another massively successful Kickstarter campaign at the end of December 2018 where over 1,000 backers pledged for our newest (and brightest) products yet. A phenomenal response. We wouldn't be here today if it wasn’t for backers like you who Kickstarted our first product. Thank you to everyone who has supported us with BEAM & ICON2!

Earlier we were saying about how no two days are the same here at See.Sense, here is our new video where we test the mounting system of ICON2, by throwing a bike off a buildng.

LOOKING TO A BRIGHT 2019

The past year has been another proud chapter in the See.Sense story, and our adventures will continue into 2019 and beyond. We see more great things happening for our company over the next 12 months. We look forward to your continued support and hope that many new followers get behind us and join us.
