We have recently refreshed our award-winning See.Sense ICON light (which has now ‘technically’ been discontinued). But we are now super proud to be introducing ICON2 into the market - available now.
It’s been almost four years since we launched the original ICON light on Kickstarter back in 2015. Since then, we have enjoyed some tremendous growth and success. We have also shared some amazing memories with our customers, backers and followers (like you) who have helped us bring our products to life.
ICON is currently being used by tens of thousands of keen cyclists across the world, and for that, we are so grateful! But before we look to the future and explain more about ICON2, we thought we would revisit some of the incredible success and memories of ICON over the years! Without listing all of the awards, recognition and reviews we've all seen - we thought we would share some of our most memorable times in photos...
Used By The Best Cyclists In The World
Chris Froome using ICON on training rides in California and Sean Kelly riding with ICON in the floods in Ireland. Isn't it great that we managed to get Sean in a See.Sense T-Shirt!
We have to say if this isn't a highlight of making a product, then what is? We can still remember the moment Chris bought his light in 2017, and to be honest, it didn't seem real until we saw the photo on social media a couple of weeks later!
These have absolutely nothing to do with big marketing budgets or paid for promotions, just two genuine happy customers who use our products (they just happen to be some of the worlds best cyclists of all time).
Cyclists use ICON in the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games
We were super proud to be asked to kit out the full Northern Ireland cycling team with ICON lights for the Commonwealth Games last year by their coach Anthony Mitchell.
Recognise the bike on the left? Yep that's Wiggo's old Bollide as used by Marcus Christie in the Gold Coast Commonwealth games Time Trial where he finished 7th overall.
Despite no medals, this was cyclings most successful year yet for Northern Ireland when taken across all events. All cyclists kept extra visible, even in the Australian sunlight.
ICON Loved By Customers Near And Far
We are delighted to now have shipped ICON to over 76 countries worldwide, with a product that is still made locally in the UK. Just a few more countries to tick off the list! But what we loved the most about selling ICON was the fantastic feedback we received from our satisfied customers. It is reviews like this one submitted by Phillip Trad (below), from California, that give us an extra buzz:
“The ICON+ is one of the finest products that a person could purchase for cycling. In use, I have found that I can ride for 10 to 12 hours and still have more than 50% battery life available. All functions work perfectly and the interface application is clear, concise and accurate. Needless to say, the ICON+ makes a perfect complement to my bike. I am proud of the product and I have been recommending it to all of my fellow riders. And See Sense has been a dream to work with. Something I very much appreciate when purchasing a product from outside the United States. Great company and great product…”
From The London Design Museum To The Manchester Science Museum - And Beyond
Not Just A Bike Light
Another memorable moment was when we found out ICON was going to be featured in the London Design Museum’s ‘Cycle Revolution Exhibition, a real honour when you consider that all of our design and tech is created in house. But See.Sense ICON is a lot more than a market-leading cycle light. ICON is also helping cities across the world improve the safety and quality of cycling, and therefore increase the appeal of it as a sustainable mode of transport in their city. That's why ICON is now featured permanently in the Science Museum in Manchester as a result of our smart cycling project to help improve cycling there and help connect the city.
So, with all of this good stuff - why let it come to an end?
Since launching ICON, so much has changed since then, the way we use products has changed, design for cycling has changed, but most relevant to this blog in particular - technology has changed.
The See.Sense ICON2 will be our most powerful light to date, ideal for those longer rides on the weekend or with clubs. ICON2 increases the brightness and runtime of ICON, with the design and intelligence of our ACE light. The result is that you stay visible and safer for longer.
ICON2 uses a combination of both chip on board (CoB) LEDs and a high power CREE LED at the bottom. There is no compromise with ICON2. The CoB LED's create a panel of light to get you noticed as soon as possible while still giving you 270° of side visibility. The high-power CREE LED creates a focused beam to make you visible from up to 3km away. Our new custom CoB gives you 300 lumen LEDs in the rear light and 400 lumen LEDs in the front (our highest output to date).
ICON has been another proud chapter in the See.Sense story, and our epic adventure will continue with the launch of ICON2 (and even more products which we have in the pipeline which you will hear about soon).
We look forward to your continued support, and hope that many new followers get behind us and join us on our adventure.
