2017: The year that was for See.Sense | Looking to a bright 2018

Time flies when you're working hard and having fun, and 2017 came and went in the blink of an eye for our team here at See.Sense. We’ve experienced some amazing growth and success over the past 12 months - especially with the launch of our brand new product ACE on Kickstarter, and we would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our customers, backers and followers who have helped us get to here. You are all a part of our journey.

See.Sense is gearing up for another massive year in 2018 - there are so many exciting developments planned for the next 12 months. But before we look to the future we thought we would revisit the year that was, here are just a few highlights:

The London Bike Show

It was great to Kickstart 2017 by going out to London and meeting lots of you guys at the London Bike Show. Speaking to our customers at events like these definitely has to be one of the best parts of our jobs. As well as getting to attend an amazing bike show in London, look at beautiful kit and bikes, and getting to call it work.

London Bike Show Best Bike Gadget 2017

We were delighted for See.Sense ICON to win the's People's Choice award for "Best Bike Gadget". This really meant a lot to us as it was voted for by YOU.

Sportive’s and Fundraising in 2017

As the weather started to warm up our team wanted to sign up for a few cycling sportives (and also the Belfast Marathon). This was both to achieve personal goals of our own and to raise some money for Charity. These included Gran Fondo NI, RideLondon, Lap the Lough and the Belfast Marathon. We were proud to raise over £500 for The Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children. We also continued to support our Tree planting charity throughout the year, planting a tree for each set of lights we sold.

See.Sense £4,000 Summer Competition

We gave away a top of the range Specialized Tarmac Comp Disc, an amazing cycling holiday in Spain, and a set of ICON+ lights to our lucky winner Damien McKay who thoroughly enjoyed his cycling trip. We weren't jealous at all!

Finalist in PwC "Technology Innovation of the Year" Private Business Awards

We were proud to be a finalist for this huge award which celebrates the very best in the private sector. We were shortlisted for 'redefining the bike light' using crowd-sourced data for smart cities.

Velo City 2017

Velo city is the world's leading cycling planning conference. In June we were excited to visit Arnhem-Nijmegen for Velo-City 2017, where we had a stand and were speakers, too. We also got to enjoy some Netherlands style cycling while we were there. We are looking forward to attending this next year in Rio.

NEC Cycle Show, Birmingham

What a brilliant time we had at the NEC Cycle Show. Another excuse to look at hundreds of beautiful new bikes and kit while getting to talk to our amazing customers old and new.

ACE Kickstarter

We launched our brand new AI-powered cycle light ACE on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter on 12th October 2017. We've been totally overwhelmed to have welcomed an incredible group of 3,938 backers who have brought ACE to market by making their pledge. Excitingly, this makes See.Sense ACE the most backed bike light on Kickstarter of all time!

See.Sense Smart Cities Offering and Smart City Expo 2017

We launched two city-wide closed data trials, with 500 cyclists in Dublin and 180 cyclists in Manchester, working in close collaboration with the city councils.  We're currently in data collection phase, and we are looking forward to sharing the results in the New Year! Click here to read more about the Dublin trial and here to read about our trial with Manchester.

See.Sense Co-founder Irene McAleese was invited to speak at the Smart City Expo about on the subject of getting more bikes back into the city. Click here  to watch the video.

Chris Froome spotted using ICON lights!

We were amazed when this photo was sentoto us by a customer on Instagram! Froome using his See.Sense rear light in Miami, FL!

Winner of Best Small Business Award, Women in Business NI

Our Co-Founder Irene McAleese was delighted to accept the "Best Small Business" award of 2017 from Women in Business Northern Ireland, as featured by BikeBiz. The success of the award builds on See.Sense winning the "Best Startup" award back in 2015.

See.Sense in The Times

See.Sense was featured in The Times on Monday 27th November 2017. The feature discussed how our smart technology can give cyclists warnings of potholes. The data will also be of benefit to cities to help them improve infrastructure for all road users.

BikeBiz - Shortlisted for "Best P&A Brand.

We are really proud to have just been announced as a finalist in the BikeBiz Industry Awards for BEST parts and accessories brand - next to some amazing names! The last year has been another proud chapter in the See.Sense story, and our exciting adventure will continue into 2018 and beyond. We see more great things happening for the company over the next 12 months as we continue to stretch the boundaries of cycling innovation and design.

And we look forward to your continued support, and hope that many new followers get behind us and join us on our adventure. We are clicking into gear for a busy and productive 2018. Best wishes to all our friends for a Happy New Year!
