See.Sense collaborates with Dott to enhance micromobility safety in Madrid

See.Sense is teaming up with micromobility company Dott to launch an innovative road safety initiative for e-scooter users in Madrid.

Over the course of an initial twelve week ‘Proof of Concept’ trial, a selection of Dott's scooters will be equipped with sensors provided by See.Sense, which employ patented technology to observe rider behaviour. 

The project is designed to demonstrate how Dott e-scooters fitted with See.Sense technology, can play a pivotal role in advancing road safety for all micromobility enthusiasts and support Madrid’s Vision Zero objectives to eradicate road casualties. 

Throughout each journey, See.Sense's monitoring technology, which received a Commendation in the CIHT road safety category, and is a current finalist in the CITTI Awards, is capable of identifying high granular changes in rider behaviour, shedding light on the user experience on the road.

The insights gathered are expected to pinpoint areas with a notably high incidence of abrupt braking or swerving, as well as detecting road surface condition.  

These identified hotspots will be shared with relevant authorities to propose enhancements in cycling infrastructure design or road quality, thus contributing to safer streets for all micromobility and other users. 

This trial builds upon a successful implementation in London, in which a vivid picture of Dott e-scooter use across central London was created.

From this, areas that witnessed high levels of braking and swerving - as well as areas of poor road surface conditions - were identified, with these insights being used to inform the risk profile of streets across London, informing TfL’s Vision Zero initiative.

See.Sense data insights were also used by Dott to identify the incidence of pavement riding to understand if it’s an issue, and take remedial measures where necessary.
